Cabbage is a super food.  In the veggie world, the Brassica genus reigns supreme and cabbage is the most impressive of the lot, which includes broccoli and bok choy.  Cabbage is high in acids, low in carbohydrates, and an excellent source of Vitamins A, C, K, B1, and B6.  It contains plenty of potassium, protein, and magnesium.  It is rich in dietary fiber which promotes a healthy digestive system.


Cabbage contains compounds called indoles, which have been shown to reduce the risk of cancer dramatically.  It is found to be associated with lower incidence of cancer especially lung cancer, stomach cancer, colon cancer, and prostrate cancer.  Cabbage contains the cell phytonutrients that help the body in fighting against the free radicals responsible in damaging the cell membranes , the main causes of rheumatism , gout, arthritis, renal calculi, and hardening and discoloration of the skin.  Cabbage contains lactic acid that acts to clean the blood and remove toxins.  It is rich in iodine, which is good for building muscles.

Papaya provides great protection against heart disease.  It is rich in fiber and beta carotene.    Papaya studies have shown that Type I diabetics who consume high fiber diets have lower blood glucose levels while Type II diabetics may have improved blood sugar, lipids, and insulin levels.  Among younger men, diets rich in beta carotene may play a protective role against prostrate and colon cancers.
